Drake Spills News About Carter IV

Apparently, Wayne really is working on the Carter IV from Rikers. Drake recently did an interview with MTV for their “Mixtape Daily” series (which those of us who have MTV Jams are familiar with), and told his interviewer that Lil’ Wayne let him hear two new verses he’d written from behind bars. According to Drake, the bars Wayne let him hear are good enough to make him want to find a new career path. The Young Money softie seemed to be really excited about Wayne’s work. Check out the video:

Hopefully, …

Interview: Guns & Crayons

I’ve said it once. I’ve said it a million times. A good name can make anything pop. Guns & Crayons is a growing streetwear brand based in Phoenix, Arizona (pray for them, ya’ll), that I fell in love with the second I heard their name. Created by childhood friends, Thomas and Keith in 2008, and truly launched at the beginning of this year, Guns & Crayons pulls off a blend of high fashion and streetwear in a way that I haven’t really seen before. I like. You’ll like. Get to …

Checking In: Sublime Dreamer

The internet makes so much possible. This past December, I got a chance to speak with Brian and Kyle of Sublime Dreamer, a growing brand out of Delaware, and about a week ago I finally got to meet them in person.
They’ve made significant progress since that first interview. Sublime Dreamer pieces have been featured in several different fashion shows, including shows at Morgan State University, Temple University, Howard High School and Delaware State. Wearing their own merchandise, the guys from Sublime Dreamer recently came to DC to prepare to be …

Cubannie Links x 25 Magazine

25 Magazine, my home away from home, just posted an interview with Annie Balsuto, designer of Cubannie Links, a ridiculously cute jewelry line that has been turning heads since it launched a few years ago.
Her stuff is fun, stylish and affordable. I did a double-take when I saw those wallet-friendly prices. And despite the fact that her line hasn’t even hit its three year mark, Cubannie Links is snatching up quite a bit of attention.
When asked about her love for jewelry, Balsuto replied,
“I’ve always loved jewelry and always owned tons …

Checking In: Sublime Dreamer

One of the best parts of this job is getting to watch new brands grow. Here’s the Spring 2010 collection from Sublime Dreamer, a Delaware-based clothing line whose designers I interviewed a couple of months ago.
They’ve been busy, branching out into button-downs and v-necks and playing around with their logos.
I’m liking what I see.

Best of luck to them. There’s a special place in my heart for college students on their grind.

INTERVIEW: Agio Life

Last week I had the pleasure of traveling out to Frederickburg, VA to interview the guys of Agio Life, a developing lifestyle brand out of northern Virginia. OK, well, the journey wasn’t a pleasure…I’ve become way too acquainted with the intricacies of riding the Virginia Railway Express, a very Amtrak-like experience that a lot of VA residents take everyday. Couldn’t. Be. Me.
But my interview with Craig Gross, Tyler Moore and Jason Prince of Agio Life was well worth the trip. After deciding to start their brand just three years ago, …

INTERVIEW: Eyeconic Clothing

Ted Lamisere is the budding designer behind Eyeconic Clothing, a streetwear brand out of Atlanta. Even in its infant stages, Eyeconic Clothing seems to be going in the right direction. The graphics are cool, to the point, and stand out. You can tell that there is hard work put into them, and I can’t wait to see more.
Plus, I recently had the chance to talk to Ted about his vision and concept behind his line.  Aren’t ya’ll lucky?
Check it out.
DC Streetwear: What made you decide to start a clothing line?
Ted …

INTERVIEW: Sublime Dreamer

Born in the fall of 2008, Sublime Dreamer is a devloping streetwear brand based in Delaware. The trio of designers behind the Brian Wanjare, Kyle Gray, and James Woods are all college students, ready to face the world with a blog and a dream.
In that idealistic way of all undergrads, they see their brand as the embodiment of every dreamer’s hopes. They best describe themselves by saying,

“We all have aspirations that we strive to accomplish, and not only to accomplish them, but to achieve them in the utmost fashion.
Therefore, a …

INTERVIEW: Durkl

A well-chosen name can do wonders for a clothing line. Such is the case with Durkl, one of my favorite brands out of the DMV. I was out one day and randomly saw a sticker with the word “Durkl” scrawled on it. I had to Google it. Just because. And I stumbled upon their website.
Their clothes are stylish and heavily detailed, in colors just bold enough to grab your attention.  Just trendy enough to catch your eye, and classic enough to remain in heavy rotation a year later.
Plus, there were so many …
