A little bit of a rant: Shorts in November

I woke up this morning and checked the weather to decide what I was going to throw on before I headed to class. I saw that it was going to be around 70 degrees, did a double fist-pump in the air, and danced over to my closet to pull out a shirt and a light sweater.
Why didn’t I go for a dress or some shorts, you may ask? Well, because it’s November, dammit! And despite the fact that the human race’s abuse of the earth is causing climate change, (yeah, …

Men in Leggings: The Rant Continues

My issues with this leggings craze that has taken over the DC community and beyond is now the stuff of legend.
Well, at least among me and my friends.
I have been known to give a female a blood-curdling side-eye for five minutes straight for wearing a pair of leggings poorly.
The fear that the leggings fad would spread from college women to the older crowd consumed me for months, and now, the abomination of all abominations has occured.
Men are wearing leggings. And Chris Brown is to blame.
On the cover for his new …

Dusty Candy

If you follow me on Twitter (@DCstreetwear), then you may know that I bought my first, grown-up business suit the other day. And while I never plan to work anywhere where I am condemned to wear stockings each day, it was a big step for me. Up until this point, I’d throw on a pair of slacks and feel like I was ready to tackle corporate America.
Anywho, during my very mature, shopping excursion, something grabbed my attention that I’d ignored in the past: clothing stores sell an awful amount of …

A little bit of a rant: Keep Your Underwear to Yourself

This mess is getting ridiculous, and I don’t think I can stomach another day of it in silence. Ok, that was a little dramatic, but bear with me. I’m running on E, and I”m fed up.  Why, you may ask? Because of the nonsense that I’ve been witnessing on these DC streets.
Steady yourself for this one…These girls are running around wearing stockings as pants.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, stockings. Not the more acceptable, solid leggings –although I have griped about those before–but straight up stockings. The ones with the feet in …

A Glue Gun and a Dream

So, this friend of mine–we’ll call her “Kristina”—has an obsession with all things glittery and animal-printed. She’s especially fond of leopard print (it’s not as busy as cheetah print, apparently) so, I wasn’t too shocked when she showed up with leopard print nails and a matching, leopard print case for her Blackberry Storm.

Did I mention that the case was made entirely out of rhinestones?
And though we gave her a lot of ish about both the case and her nails–they were actually cute. Plus, they were her in only that way …

Opening Ceremony x Where the Wild Things Are

The movie adaptation of Maurice Sendek’s classic children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are, will be in theatres on October 16th, and I plan to be there, wearing my WTWTA (yes, I made it an acronym) t-shirt with pride.
Apparently, I’m not the only one who is excited. Opening Ceremony has created an entire WTWTA-themed collection.
“The line features a full range of faux fur pieces for both men and women, subtly evoking Max’s crew of wild friends including Carol, Judith, K.W., Douglas, and Bull. The line even includes Max’s iconic one-piece playsuit – complete with …

Enough is Enough: Obama-wear

I saw this while surfing the blogs, and my heart stopped.
Victoria Rowell–yes, Drucilla Winters from Young and the Restless–wore an Obama gown to the Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday night.
I don’t even know where to begin…It’s one thing to support your president, and it’s quite another to look like you paid the guy that sells incense, Hugs juices and bootleg DVDs at the flea market to design your dress.
I’m sure Dru (you know you think that’s her real name, too) has gotten quite a bit of shade thrown her way since the Emmys, so …
